Alaska Cruise 2014 - Starting our adventure in Vancouver!

I started this exciting adventure arriving in Vancouver on June 7, 2014.  I flew out with Terry (husband) meeting three couples the following day to start our Alaskan cruise adventure!

We decided to take the Canada Line (train) from the airport to the Downtown area with a 3 block hike with our luggage in hand to the Georgian Hotel. I cannot remember the exact cost but around $15 for both of us and a 35 minute ride got us to the Downtown area.

Our plan was to head to the Capilano Suspension Bridge which was listed as the tourist thing to do. We missed the shuttle, so we walked across the street to try out one of their local beers and of course chat with the locals (something I highly suggest when you have extra time to spend in a city)!

We decided to head up to Grouse Mountain in the morning with one of the other couples, Mario and Bebe De La Rosa.  They have been my clients for around 15 plus years, so it was so much fun to be able to meet face to face for the first time!  They truly are a lovely couple who added some fun times to our adventure.

Grouse Mountain
  • Free shuttle to get to the mountain  (located in downtown area hotels)
  • Skyride $41.95 per person  (includes Lumberjack show, Ranger Talks, Grizzly Bear habitat, and Birds in Motion shows
  • Additional fee for zip-lining, helicopter tours and other options
  • If you're active then save the $$, lace up your shoes, and do the "Grouse Grind" a 2.9-kilometre trail up the face of the mountain also known as "Mother Nature's Stairmaster" Total Stairs 2830!
Unfortunately, we didn't have a lot of time to spend up on the mountain so we grabbed a coffee and a 'beaver tail treat' and enjoyed watching the active Grizzly Bears and enjoyed the amazing view.  Then it was back down the mountain to grab our suitcases and head off to Canada Pier to board the beautiful Holland America Oosterdam!

Vancouver is a beautiful city with so much to offer.  I highly suggest spending a full day there to experience this city prior or after a cruise tour.
